About

United Bank Limited was founded in 1959 by the Saigol family, nationalised in 1974 and privatised in 2002, when a consortium led by the Abu Dhabi Group and the Bestway Group took control. Headquartered in Karachi and designated a domestic systemically important bank, UBL has long been the leading Pakistani bank for remittances, built on branch and agency arrangements in the Gulf where most Pakistani expatriate workers are. It absorbed Silkbank in an amalgamation completed in March 2025.
