About
The State Bank of Pakistan is the country's central bank, established in 1948 months after independence, when the Reserve Bank of India ceased to act as the currency authority for Pakistan. It issues the rupee, sets monetary policy, regulates and supervises every bank on this list, and manages the foreign exchange reserves. It also built and operates Raast, the national instant payment system, and has used direct subsidy to push merchant adoption of it — an unusually interventionist role for a central bank in the retail payments market.
In context
We hold 8 other bank companies founded in the 1940s. None has a closure on record yet.
Counted across this directory, from founding and closing years in public records. Medians cover only companies whose closure is recorded; a company with no closure date may have quietly ceased without the record catching it.
