Habib Metropolitan Bank was formed in 1992 and took its present shape in 2006 through the merger of Metropolitan Bank with the Pakistani operations of Habib Bank AG Zurich, which remains its majority shareholder. Headquartered in Karachi, it is unusually concentrated in trade finance — handling a share of Pakistan's import and export documentary business far out of proportion to its size — and it operates Islamic banking alongside its conventional business.
