About
First Women Bank was established in 1989 with a mandate no other Pakistani bank has: to bank women. It was created after research showed that women controlled a meaningful share of household savings while holding almost no accounts in their own names, and it was set up to be staffed and managed predominantly by women so that customers who would not deal with a male banker had somewhere to go. It is owned by a group of state-controlled banks together with the Government of Pakistan, and is headquartered in Karachi.
In context
We hold 10 other bank companies founded in the 1980s. 1 of them have closed, after a median of 10 years, and 9 have no closure recorded.
Counted across this directory, from founding and closing years in public records. Medians cover only companies whose closure is recorded; a company with no closure date may have quietly ceased without the record catching it.
